In The Truman Show, a man's whole life was sold as entertainment, and he was the last to know. Meta skipped the cameras. It just waited for you to start talking.
A post doing the rounds this week is a single Instagram ad in which a woman's own profile photo was pulled into the ad and served straight to her boyfriend, her face turned into the creative without her ever agreeing to it. Behind that ad is a change most people missed: Meta now feeds your conversations with its assistants into the same engine that decides which ads you see across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and its Ray-Ban glasses. Whatever you tell the bot becomes a targeting signal. There is no granular opt-out. The only way to stay out is to never open Meta AI. The policy runs worldwide, except in the UK, the EU, and South Korea, where the law forbids it.
The reason this stings is that it makes a familiar bargain feel personal in a way it never did. People made peace with ads shaped by clicks, likes, purchases, and follows. Talking to an assistant is different. It is where you go before you have the words for what you need, whether it is a health worry, a relationship doubt, career anxiety, a gift idea, or a private ambition. Those questions are the most honest things you type all day, asked in a moment you assumed was yours alone.
"For 20 years, the profile was assembled behind your back. Now you are the one filling it in, one honest question at a time."

Satya Nadella Says Every Company Should Build Its Own AI Model
Every company should build its own AI, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella argued, framing a firm as a learning system that dies the moment it hands that learning to someone else. His pitch: use your own data, context, and traces to fine-tune open-weight or cost-efficient models rather than lock into OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or Meta. Piping your operations through ChatGPT or Claude means the institutional learning that should compound inside your business instead trains someone else's system. The edge you think you're buying is the edge you're giving away.

BUSINESS IMPACT:
Frontier AI Providers:
A push toward in-house models threatens the consumption-based revenue that OpenAI and Anthropic rely on from enterprise customers.
Enterprise Software Vendors:
Demand grows for tooling that lets companies train, fine-tune, and own proprietary models rather than rent them.
Large Corporations:
Firms that treat AI as a rented utility risk ceding durable advantage to competitors that build and retain their own learning loops.
